Hey Kael, its Momma...

Gosh, the last couple of weeks have been crazy, huh? What are you thinking? Have you figured out that this new little person is ours? Ive been trying to give you your space with Cedar, not trying to force him on you too strongly. I figure youll come around...and you are.  Ill ask you where your brother is and your eyes light up, as you point to him.  You know hes something special, though you dont have too much interest in him. Youve got important things to do like, body slam onto the couch, figure out puzzles, build big towers and pretend that you are a tiger or an elephant (the later is your current fav).  It makes me smile, knowing that you guys will one day be up past your bed time while trying to figure out a way to convince us to let you stay up and wrestle for just 5 minutes more. Its going to be crazy wonderful. Until then, you are perfectly happy to wrestle and scream with your daddy or your friends, Oliver and Dash. 

Just two days ago, and for the first time, you consented to "holding" your little brother after bringing me his space man jammies.  You apparently wanted me to put them on him and you stood there until I did. (I thought the outfit I had on him was cute enough, but obviously not to your tastes that day.) haha. 

I have so much fun celebrating your mini conquerings and creations. You, proudly bringing home your paintings and art projects from preschool, are probably some of my absolute favorite things ever. Hands down, the best! You walk by "your" art wall, in the hallway (where of course I display your masterpieces) and point to your favorite painting that you made with apple stamps. I delight in how you love to create. You are rather partial to markers, *ehem* more like sharpies. I have no clue why. ;) (Its from me, Ive been obsessed with sharpies for years and you are like your momma.) This Friday, when I picked you up from school, you gave your teaches and friends hugs bye-bye, like really sweet, heart felt hugs. Ah! Being your mom is so great. 

Over the past week, Ive been asking you, over and over, how you got so big? When did this happen? I hold your face in my hands and look at you, looking at me with happiness in your eyes...you are such a big boy. A few days ago, you passed out on my chest. You were out cold! It was pure heaven. I didnt move. I just stared at your sweet face, laying on me and kissed your yummy cheeks. They still jiggle when you walk...Its your daddys favorite thing.

I just wanted to take this lull in the day, while you and your brother are napping, to write you a little note. Weve had a really fun time together this week and I wanted to tell you so. 

Oh, one last thing. You say bye-bye with a Texan accent. Yes and thank you!? Um, coolest kid ever?! haha. Youre my first little love, buddy.

This little nugget of mine, hasnt been still since he turned 3 weeks old. Hes standing on his own now and trying to take steps (if he isnt speed crawling down the hallways). Seriously, he started crawling at 4.5 months, guys. Crazy. Kael was always content to lounge and be carried, but Cedar has been planning his first triathlon for months, I swear. ha! These pictures were taken at my parents house, a couple of months ago. My moms cute red toes were a bit of an obsession for little C. haha. So precious. 

Oh little bug, I love you and your sweet little wiggly soul. Im not going to try and stop you or wish youd slow down. Ill always be your biggest fan and sideline cheerleader, as you pass me full speed ahead on the sidelines.

My Dear Forest Boy, 

I feel like the most privileged girl in the world to be your momma. Watching you learn and grow, these past months, has been the most magical, new and emotional adventure my heart has ever taken. All of a sudden, the mantra of countless moms, dads and grandparents saying: "Enjoy it, they grow so fast..." has become the beginning of a new reality for me. I feel like I want to press the pause button, weeks at a time, so I can soak up the new pages of your exploding personality. Now that youre going to be a big brother, I find myself living in slow motion more than I used to. I know that in just a few months, well have a new friend and adventurer to share our time with. It wont be just you, me and daddy anymore. That thought excites my heart and it makes me kinda sad at the same time. Not a real sad, but just a realization that things will be kind of different; a good different but different just the same. I cant tell you how thrilled I am to watch you be a big brother and have a new friend for life. I cant wait to watch you two play and come in from outside covered in, Lord knows what, with big grins on your face. But, back to us. You are our best little buddy. You make me and your daddy laugh and love like no other human on earth can. I love you. You have been sunshine to me, and have been the source of so much growth in my own heart and life. The last 5 months, when my heart was the most broken its ever been, you were the greatest source of comfort and light in such a dark time. You were literally the heart of Jesus to me in my most vulnerable moments. Thank you for that sweetheart. You are such a joy. There are so many new happy memories to be made and places to be explored!  Your daddy and I adore you!

Its going to be a fun day today! We all will get to find out if youre going to have a little brother or sister. You, me and your Daddy, were getting ready for another extravaganza of love, arent we!? Lets go, full speed ahead!

Some of my most precious memories being made lately have been taking Káel to his favorite park on sunny days. Sam captured a few of these memories for me a couple of weeks ago. I love having a film guy as my husband. Cant wait to watch all of our videos with our kids when they are older! ;) <3

Your bright little soul has brought so much light into my heart. When I kiss your sweet cheeks and look into your blue eyes, I can feel so much goodness. Watching you sleep is kinda like a drug to me...youre simply addicting. I love you more than I thought possible. But, knowing my heart the way I do, and even the way I dont quite yet...I know theres so much more love to happen between you and me and that makes me so excited. Im so thankful for you sweet boy. People say all the time that children are a gift, but you really and truly are a gift to me more than Ive ever understood the word to mean. Im so glad you came exactly when you did, my little miracle. You are the meaning of "new" to me.

There is a unique excitement that I have when we spend time together and I think about all the wonders you havent experienced yet. There are trees waiting for you to climb them, snowmen for you to build and ice cream for you to taste. There are knees to be scraped from fun adventures and silly things for you and your brother to laugh at. Your eyes will sparkle the first time you realize you can walk all by yourself. The feeling you get in your heart when youve comforted someone you love will be thrilling. I think that will be one of your gifts in life, because thats who you have been to be from the moment I first felt you dance in my tummy. So much love is waiting for you Cedar, so much love. And my one and only goal and dream in life is for you and your brother to know it as yours. My prayer countless times a day is Lord, more than anything, let my boys know they are loved.

Right now you are next to me, dreaming asleep...and your brother is antsy, trying to figure out what he wants from the moment. Your daddy is creating something lovely and now, I realize I havent even begun to understand what good means because, I feel it more today than I have in my entire life.  Sweet boy, thank you for being a kiss of healing to me. I cant wait to watch you discover and enjoy this journey.

This Spring,  Samuel and I had the pleasure of filming and participating in the first Kinfolk workshop that was hosted here in Charlotte by my dear friend Anna.    Kinfolk Magazine,  is a lovely, collective community of beauty and all things that nurture the simplicity and joy of a heart felt gathering. If youve never read their magazine or been inspired by their essays and photographs, you must add this bit of wonderful into your life. 

This workshop was a Flower Potluck so, everyone brought armfuls of flowers to share with each other. Upon arriving, each girl was given a flower crown and met with treats and lavender lemonade. A professional florist instructed us on different forms and styles of flower arrangements, which we later used to adorn the communal dinner table. Originally, the event and the dinner were to be held outdoors in the gorgeous rose garden. But, a spring rain shower redirected us into the florists studio, which made for an intimate time of communing with new and dear friends over the common love of beauty and an amazing meal. I felt that the unplanned rain gave the day a rather romantic feel. It was truly magical. The same day, several more of the same themed events were happening all over the world! Here is Samuels short film of the Flower Potluck and Dinner. This was our first time of officially working together as a film/creative team. It was perfect.  We both shot footage of the event, Samuel edited and scored it and I helped as the art director.  You will be seeing many more of our collaborations, in the near future.  I adore this man of mine. Hes so amazing and my favorite person to create with.

Has it already been a month since Cedar was born and our journey as a family of 4 began? It doesnt quite seem real yet.  Weve been taking this time to get to know our new, wee lad and gather up whatever rest that we can. I am at my worst when I dont get sleep. And the past few nights have FINALLY given me and my little boy the sleep we both were needing. I havent had one full nights sleep since C was born. But, I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of zs. ;) Friends have been spoiling us with tasty meals, flowers and treats, this past month, which has been the biggest blessing. I thought it was a blessing when we had gifted meals with Kael, but having two munchkins has proved it a little more difficult to find my rhythm in the kitchen again. So, it has been a lifesaver now more than ever. ;)  I will say, yesterday I masterfully grocery shopped with both boys without incident and felt pretty proud of myself. 

Breastfeeding is going GREAT now and has become a new found love of mine. (I never thought I would be able to actually do it, let alone enjoy it.) It was tricky for the first 3 weeks but now it is just the best thing. (minus of course the fact that I have milk spots on most of my shirts now and am realizing I need a whole new slew of threads to support my boob feeding effort. haha!) Cedar is entering that amazing and magical stage where smiles are frequent and tiny coos and babbles are starting to be what I look forward to every morning. Definitely makes 3 am a more pleasant time when Im greeted with flirty smirks. Im still writing my birth story, its coming soon, I promise. Theres a small sliver of time a day that sometimes allows me to sit down with full attention to the thoughts of my heart and Im trying to take advantage of it whenever I can to write.

Is it weird that Ive been looking forward to this moment since I was a little girl---putting my kids preschool artwork up on my walls... Its seriously one of my favorite things EVER!!! Kael proudly points to his masterpieces each time he walks through the hallway.

Clothes pins have a certain level of fascination for Kael, so...we created a little game. My friend Kristina would be proud of me. ;)
