unintended weight loss during pregnancy | 35 Weeks

unintended weight loss during pregnancy

The reality that my little adventurer #2 is almost here is blowing my mind. 5 more weeks (if Im not overdue). 5 weeks!? Seasoned moms always say it goes by so much faster after you have had your first. Its definitely been that way with this pregnancy. I have to say, Ive experienced so many more bold emotions of love with this little boy earlier on, as he ripens away in my tummy, than I did with Kael. With Forest boy, I didnt know what it was to be a momma. I learned what a mothers love is with him, this time I know. I didnt fully understand what exactly I was looking forward to with Kael. With this new little boy, Im expecting the known goodness of new love from a place of having experienced it. I cant wait to explore the world together as a family of 4. The whole family of 4 thing of course is unknown and uncharted territory for me. (Theres a little bit of an "eek!" in my soul, not gonna pretend to be fully confident in all that yet.)

Im carrying this little boy so much differently, in so many ways. (20 lbs lighter than pregnancy #1...maybe its the no milkshake rule that Ive given myself this go round. haha.) I just cant wait to hold him, kiss his face, to look into his wondering little eyes, peaking into his new, wee soul. Gah, my world is about to be blasted with a new wonderful chapter of love. Im not just about to have another little love, Im giving Kael his best friend. *tears*  Will I really have two little stinkers running around in my living room next year!?  Hello to my world of boys! Yay!

The necklace Im wearing is a Mala, a type of prayer beads from Tiny Devotions! I LOVE them and I love their company! I wear them everyday and plan on wearing them during labor. This one is the Amazonite mala that encourages love, without fear or anxiety. As I wear them, Im reminded to let the stresses of the day take their priority at the bottom of my heart.

weight loss using pregnancy hormone | Baby Update 35 Weeks

weight loss using pregnancy hormone

The best thing to report for this week is that there isnt a lot of news. Meaning Im not going into labor any time soon (we hope). My amniotic fluid levels are back down to 25cm (last week it was 27cm and anything 25+ is considered high risk), my blood pressure is good and everything is basically as it should be. Im still uncomfortable, but Im 8 months pregnant so that is to be expected.

I made a little headway this week and purchased outfits for the baby to come home from the hospital in. Jack was ecstatic that these onesies have capes. As I posted to Instagram and Facebook, "we still dont have names picked out, but our little one will have a super outfit to go home in."

I think the two outfits have confused Jack a little... he now thinks we are getting two babies.

One of the biggest differences between this pregnancy and when I was pregnant with Jack is that Daniel is working really long hours right now (he just came off of 13 consecutive work days). It would be nice to have more time to spend together as a little family of 3 before we grow to a family of 4, but we are doing our best to savor the time we do have together.

I am still working out 4x a week and wearing my regular jeans. Im guessing the baby hasnt dropped yet since I can still zip my pants up.

quick pregnancy weight loss | In This House

quick pregnancy weight loss

Shortly after Jack was born, I was perusing Pinterest and got the idea for developing a family motto to hang on our wall. You have probably seen the concept: "In This House We..."

Daniel and I took this idea a step further and came up with a list of things that were specific to our family; then I put my graphic design experience to use and created a sign that hangs in our foyer where we can see it every.single.day.

Our motto incorporates our hobbies [we hike, camp and bike together], our core family expectations [we say Im sorry, we forgive] and our faith [we love the Lord Our God, and we love others like ourselves].

As our boys grow, we are trying to make sure that we are raising them with this motto in mind, making the effort to follow through with the things we have clearly stated are important to us.

Lately we have been thinking a lot about our neighbors. We try to practice hospitality as much as possible – which can be hard with our busy schedule. In conjunction with this core belief, the church where we worship is encouraging us to meet our neighbors. Most recently this took the shape in the form of throwing a neighborhood block party, of sorts.

Yesterday was National Neighbor Day and we felt like it would be a good opportunity to get out and meet our neighbors – its kind of hard to love your neighbors when you dont know them.

We invited those living around the perimeter of our neighborhood park to join us at the park for coffee and cookies. We were encouraged to meet four families we hadnt met before. We were surprised that they came out and stuck with us, even though it rained.

We want to continue to get to know our neighbors. We want our boys to know our neighbors. We want them to feel safe in our neighborhood and we want to contribute to the safety of other families as well. I hope we continue to get to know our neighbors and have opportunities to show that we care.

I hope you had a Happy Neighbor Day and get the chance to know your neighbors as well... and if you didnt get to celebrate neighbor day, today is National COFFEE Day, so you could always invite your neighbor over for coffee ;)

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself."
Luke 10:27

baby losing weight reasons | Daniel is 35

baby losing weight reasons

Another year is in the books for Daniel. It is hard to believe that he is already 35 (and that I will be in a few months).

The last couple of years have been a bit of a blur. Between Daniels crazy work hours and raising little ones, the days are both long and short. We blink and another day, month, year has passed us by.

We have been desperately trying to find ways to embrace this stage and to take advantage of the short time we have with each other and our boys. Thankfully Daniel was able to have his actual birthday off (after the last year, I will never take Saturdays for granted again!) and we were able to spend some quality time with family.

We started our morning by sleeping in. Winning! Then went to Lookout Mountain for a 3-mile hike at Lula Lake.

After our hike we stopped at the newest location of Mojo Burrito (one of our favorite burrito joints) in St. Elmo at the base of Lookout. The food was fantastic (as usual) and we loved the outdoor dining space.

Daniels mom and sisters met us at Mojo and then we all went back to our house to celebrate Daniels birthday with delicious cupcakes they had brought with them from The Painted Cupcake in Nashville (this is becoming a tradition).

After cupcakes and visiting, Daniel and I cleaned up and left our boys in the capable hands of their nana and aunts and made our way downtown to the Bluffs View Art District for coffee at Rembrandts Coffee House (a favorite, and also becoming a tradition).

We savored our coffee and the much needed date (though we did end up talking about the boys a bit). The best part of Daniels day (for him) was that when he was parallel parking our car, some young whipper snappers walked by and said, "That guy must have a back-up camera." Indicating that Daniel did such a good job parking there was no way he could have done it in one shot without a camera. Kudos to my husband and his proficiency at parallel parking!

The boys had a wonderful time with our family and it was nice to have an evening off from bedtime duties.

Sunday after church, we met Daniels dad and his wife at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, Abuelos, in Hamilton Place. We discovered this restaurant while I was pregnant with Isaac and we love their chips and salsa.

We are so thankful Daniel was able to be home with us for his birthday and that we were able to see his family and pack a lot into our weekend.

Happy Birthday, Daniel. We love you to the moon and back and I look forward to many, many, many more years together!

weight loss possible during pregnancy | Hello 2013

weight loss possible during pregnancy

Hello 2013. Something in my deepest heart is pretty excited about you. 2012 was a year of growing up, learning what it really means to cherish and to trust. I learned to hope again, to find beauty  and I truly feel like I settled into motherhood. My soul rooted itself in friendships, and found a sweet security, safety and rest in my growing little tribe of boys.  I cant even begin to describe the heaven we find in  our  kids. Ive had a growing sense of awe at this precious quiet of love in my life, Im overwhelmed by it. 2012 was harshest of bitter and the purest of sweet. Ive never felt as much pain, and Ive never experienced as much joy as I did these past twelve months. There are so many stories that were never written, and moments that could never be captured. It was a heck of a year.

Cheers to simplicity, and to love. Heres to newness, to expectancy of good and the joy of all the days that are waiting to make us know the sweetness of life. This is going to be a precious and fabulous year.

weight lose tips during pregnancy | Team Green

weight lose tips during pregnancy

Have you ever heard of Team Green? I hadnt. Basically its a term that has been coined to describe people that choose to wait until birth to find out the gender of their child.

For Daniel and I, choosing to wait to find out Isaacs gender just kind of happened. It started when I was sent to the high-risk OB appointment at 12 weeks. While we anxiously waited to learn what was going on with our baby, the high-risk OB casually asked if we wanted to find out the sex of our baby.

I was caught off guard by the question, surprised that we could find out the gender so early. At the time I made the split second decision to wait. Truthfully, I was still trying to grasp the fact that our baby was OK and that I wasnt going to miscarry. I think that with all of the anxiety of this pregnancy I just wanted something to look forward to, and a surprise gender seemed to fulfill that need. Thankfully Daniel agreed.

At our 19 week ultrasound, we once again agreed that we would wait to find out the gender until birth. We did ask the ultrasound tech to give us the gender ultrasound in a sealed envelope in case we changed our minds (which we didnt). Daniel put the envelope in his backpack and never opened it. Ironically we still havent looked at that sealed ultrasound to confirm whether the gender was correct!

Over Christmas many of our family weighed in on the gender. Friends also gave us their opinions. The guesses leaned heavily towards girl. During the entire pregnancy I never did have a strong feeling one way or the other – though Jack was certain he was getting a brother.

The reactions we got from people really varied when they found out we were waiting. Everyone I knew (that had waited to find out gender) would tell us that it was one of the best surprises they ever had. Other people told us that they could never wait to find out, that there was too much to plan. The funniest reactions came from complete strangers – like the different check-out girls at various grocery stores that were appalled that I was choosing to wait. I mean, why would you wait when you could be out shopping for your little one? Why wait when there is technology to tell you the sex as early as 12 weeks?

Anyways, we stuck to our guns and continued to wait. This became more difficult when I had pre-term labor at 30 weeks. Following my hospital stay I had weekly ultrasounds and every time Daniel and I would remind the ultrasound tech that we didnt know the sex, then we would turn our heads away from the screen. Every week for 10 weeks, we looked away from the ultrasound. We were seriously committed to being Team Green.

When we went to the hospital for an induction, my nurse asked what I was having. When I said that we didnt know, she excitedly said that it would be a special treat for us and that the delivery team is always excited to be a part of the surprise. Its funny how things dont always go as you expect...

When I was rushed to the OR for an emergency C-section, only 3 hours after starting my induction, no one was thinking about the gender. They were focused on getting our baby out and cauterizing the bleeding in my womb.

Daniel watched as our baby was lifted out of me and quietly said, "Its a boy." There was no fan fare, no excitement. I could barely keep my eyes open. Team Green revealed that we were actually Team Blue and all I could think about was how thirsty I was.

I had waited 9 months for this surprise. I had told countless people that I didnt care if we had a boy or girl, as long as our baby was healthy. And when all was said and done, I really didnt care. I was thrilled that 9 months of anxiety and fear; of weekly appointments to make sure our baby was doing well, had culminated in a healthy baby. Sure a small part of me was a little sad that I wouldnt have a mini-me running around, but I am thrilled that Jack got the brother that he had been so sure he was getting. I look forward to raising our boys. And overall, the fact that our newest little boy and I are both home and healthy is something to be celebrated – even if we didnt celebrate in the hospital the way I had envisioned that we would.

quick post pregnancy weight loss | Me Time

quick post pregnancy weight loss

Friday it rained and I was cooped up with the kids. Inside. All day long.

Saturday was foggy with a light rain and I was itching to get out of the house. Daniel worked a long week at work, as usual, and had no desire to leave the house. So he told me to go do something by myself.

The things I wanted to do (hike, take a long bike ride, go to a local cave) are all things that are better with other people. But that was not to be.

Initially I felt like the only thing I could really go do by myself was go get our weekly groceries (not my idea of fun, though better when I do it alone).

So I gave all my boys kisses and headed down the mountain. I found myself headed for the NorthShore of Chattanooga to Milk & Honey for a latte. As I drove, I passed the entrance to Stringers Ridge and thought it might be nice to take a walk in the woods.

So, with latte in hand, I headed back to Stringers Ridge. I didnt have a lot of time since Isaac is on a 2-3 hour nursing schedule, but I had just enough time to wander up the Balderdash trail. A mile isnt very far, but it was time to myself. Time to be lost in my thoughts with no distractions. Time to savor my coffee.

I dont do that often enough.

After my coffee was finished, I headed to the grocery store before heading home (chores still have to be done, right?).

I am so grateful that Daniel told me to go do my own thing. Especially in light of the fact that he was called into work on Sunday and I was back to full-time mom duty.

It was a good reminder that I am me, and More Than Just a Mom (post from January, 2013).
